When the whistling winds of winter stop their chilling, icy cry, Comes the whisper of the snowflakes through the cold air brushing by.

No pale sun nor moon by night, Earth and sky they turn to white, Soundless snowflakes tumble fast, Winter’s veil is drifting past, Hiding door and window-ledge, Covering bush and garden hedge, Swaying on the laden trees And into every crevice squeeze.

As the high, white moon arises in a still and peaceful sky, Down below the world will shimmer where the fallen snowflakes lie.
