Noughts & Crosses - For Two Players

To start - Marbles are arranged by colour opposite each other in the outer rows. Each player chooses a colour and selects who will begin. The first player takes one of their marbles and places it anywhere within the center cups. Their opponent does the same. The winner is the first player to form a straight line of three in a horizontal, vertical or diagonal.

Triangle Solitaire - For One Player

To Start - Fill all the cups except one. Move by jumping one marble over one other into a vacant cup beyond. The object is to leave one marble on the board.

Ratings: Four or More left in play - not good. Three left - average. Two left - getting better. One left - Well done! Now try starting from a different cup.

Knights - For One Player

Using the Knight’s move, as in chess, transfer the marbles from one side to the other. A Knight’s move is either one cup forward and two sideways, or two forward and one sideways, in any direction, to land an empty cup. 50 to 55 moves is average, less than 50 is good, less than 45 is excellent.

Nine Man’s Morris - For Two Players

Each player takes nine marbles of the same colour. The players alternately place a marble in a vacant cup, the object being to get three marbles in a row along any line. When a line of three is made the player removes from play one opposing marble. When both players have placed all their marbles, they take turns to move one marble one cup along any line to an unoccupied cup, still trying to get three in a row in order to remove an opposing marble. The marble being removed must not be taken from a line of three, unless there are no spare marbles. To re-use an existing line of three it must be broken i.e. a marble moved in one turn may be returned in the next. The winner is the player who reduces their opponent to two marbles or succeeds in cornering all opposing marbles so that they are unable to move.

This board is 133mm square and the colours of the marbles provided may vary from those illustrated.
